What we collect, why we collect it, and who can see it. In plain language.
The short version
Your CV is used to produce your score, your job match and your optimised CV. Nothing else. It is never shared with recruiters, employers or any third party, and it is never sold.
What we collect
- Your CV file and the text we extract from it, so we can analyse and rewrite it.
- Details taken from your CV: job title, employer, skills, years of experience, location, and where your CV states them, nationality, visa status and notice period. These come only from what you uploaded; we never guess them.
- Any job description you paste or link, so we can compare it to your CV.
- Your email address, but only if you download an optimised CV.
- Anonymous usage counts: how many CVs were scored, matched, optimised and downloaded, and what each of those cost us to run.
There is no account, no password, and no login. A short-lived identifier is stored in your browser so your CV and results stay connected during your visit.
Why we ask for your email
Two reasons, both stated on the download screen: it is how we count how many people the product helps, and it lets us occasionally email you about UpdateMyCV. Any email we send will include a working unsubscribe link. We do not sell or share your address, and we do not pass it to recruiters.
Who can see your CV
Your CV file is stored privately. There is no public link to it, and it cannot be opened by anyone who has not been given a time-limited link by our own server. No recruiter, employer or third party has access, including the recruitment business the founder works in.
To analyse your CV, its text is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API, which performs the analysis and returns the result. It is not used to train models.
Where it is stored
On Supabase (database and file storage) and Vercel (the website itself). Everything travels over an encrypted connection. Your CV content is never written into web addresses or application logs.
How long we keep it
90 days. Your CV file, the text we extracted from it, the details we took from it, your scores, your job matches and your optimised CV are all deleted automatically 90 days after you upload. This runs every day, without anyone having to remember.
Two things are kept longer, and neither contains your CV: anonymous counts of how many CVs were scored and what that cost us to run, and your email address if you downloaded an optimised CV.
Want it gone sooner? Email hello@updatemycv.com and we will delete your CV, your results and your email address.
